Patriotism.

Patriotism as a concept is developed so that you work towards the betterment of society in general, rather than towards particular section of society.

Patriotism is tool that is meant to unite the society which is fragmented into different kinds of beliefs, creeds and perspectives.
If we start respecting every fragment of society probably we'll never need the concept of patriotism.
